Poll: Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter

Welcome to the first VGCritics Poll! This time we will discuss which of the following is the best – The Mortal Kombat or the Street Fighter series.

Mortal Kombat, hands down. Street Fighter is a good series, but it can’t beat Mortal Kombat.
It’s a close call, but I’d go with MK. The characters and story interest me in this a lot more than it does in SF.

All Mortal Kombat has going for it is the blood and a higly undynamic combo-system.
The Mortal Kombat series did manage to outlast the streetfighter series, but overall streetfighter games have been better.
I totally agree with you, that is why I also voted for SF.
I have always been a fan of Mortal Kombat. Street Fighter is a fun game, but I always found MK’s characters, setting, and gameplay to be more compelling than anything SF has to offer.
MK is famous for the gore and blood, all the characters are bland (they are all the same cept fatalities) and more then half the games used pallet swaps for their characters (over 1/3 of the roster), plus, they copied the fighting controls off SF (like KOF, AOF, and MK). SF owns.
Street Fighter II (original edition for SNES) is the granddaddy of all fighting games! Quarter circle forward + punch has been copied countless times, HA-DO-KEN!!!
SF is more of s legendery and well known game, but MK is more fun to play with combos etc.
I voted for MK, i guess I like it better becuase I gre up playing Mortal combat and I’v played almost every Mk game, I’ve onlt played a few SF
street fighter for life u pick ken to win MK is not good 2d wise,fighting,story and creating chrarters they should have sticked with the humans.i will give them the 3d graphs its one of the best i will give them that street fighter has every thing
street fighter is better than mortal kombat anyday the only thing that makes mk tight is the fatlities and even with that it still can’t mess with street fighter mortal kombat fighting is not even that good I’m down with everyone that voted for street fighter…it’s the best mortal kombat is a JOKE HAHAHAHAHAH
Street Fighter! It had a really good concept and a nice story. Mortal Kombat was just blood and gore.
It was already decided on a comicbook battles site. Ryu and Ken defeated SubZero and Scorpion because S&S have a not-so-well relationship.
Then again, I think Ryu & Ken should also participate in the Killer Instinct series… but where is that game now anyway? XD
Hmmm… let’s think this logically.
Ryu & Ken would best fit either in another SNK/Namco hybrid, and retire after it all in a Nintendo Smash Bros. game.
Definently going with MK, been playing it for the last 12 years. The story has always enticed me to play them all and learn about the characters and even levels. The combo system does suck, but I had an even worse time trying to string a combo with SF this summer when I played against some friends.

Im so sick of pitting Ryu and Ken against B squad characters. Lets put Ryu and Ken from the Marvel VS serious and see how good Lui Kang and Johnny Cage do. I forgot Lui Kang is a zombie and Ryu is alive and kicking… ass!
No doubt i give the nod 2 SF.
Hell capcom doesnt even see mortal kombat as a threat and they were willing 2 work with the lesser known KoF series from SNK.

I voted for Street Fighter for obvious reasions.
Mortal Kombat was a dam good game but it really did not require to much skill. Combos were lazy and so were the graphics. The only thing that sold mk was the blood and fatality system.
Street Fighter required more effort to pull of combos and showed who was skilled and who was a cheap fighter. Although sf never had a fatality system like mk it did have “super atacks” which were just as satisfying.
But that’s just my two cents..

I go with Street Fighters, no doubt about it. Better plot, characters, and animated series. MK only has blood and gore…not for me.
hmm… a dard decision i think w would choose street fighter over mk play sf on the weekday and mk on weekends

Street fighter is a great game. Anyone who says that Mortal Kombat is better, Obviously never played street fighter alpha 3. Mortal kombat is chunky, terrible framerate, and the real life charictors look out of place in the animated world. The three D games Are very clunky and isnt very fast. Although it has conbos, it feels like no skill is required to pull them off. In order to play street fighter, you actually have to read the manual to learn moves. And the moves Are much cooler than those in mortal kombat. It seems mortal kombat tries too hard to becomme a complex game. Anyone who takes the storyline seriously is a fool. The makers themselves dont take the story very seriously. It isnt as in depth as street fighter is. The street fighter anime’s are good and one of the only animes i will ever watch. Mortal kombat series are lame and predictable. The only thing good out of game they came up with was the first movie. If anyone here can name me three cool moves from one charictor that are cooler than the Basic but good looking Ryus set of moves, i will be one proved wrong dog.
I vote streetfighter, for its moves, and cooler charictors that arent just a bunch of recolors ( Come on, at least ken had a different face and hair.)

anyway. SF is alot more complex were combos general consist of linking special moves, were MK is just linking punches and kicks
so simply it is your choice
okay, mortal kmbat rules, street fighter rules, anyone who says that the blood in mortal kombat is a gay, weak, pathetic, no guts, wuss coward. But Street Fighter is tthe game for me. I’ve been playing both games since I was 1, my brother made me play ‘em. I love MK, but I love SF better. and street fighter is the best fighting game, and video game of all time.

mortal combat with many many charicters is pretty much equil to street fighter, sometimes its cool that the charicters look more cartoony, sometimes its not, sometimes it is dumb that they look more real, sometimes its not
MK is way to easy I beat my friend (who has owned one of the games for 2 years) with a broken controller. Street Fighter is just too good .Also is MK an anime ,don’t think so.
I vote MORTAL KOMBAT! I am a STREET FIGHTER fanatic! I played & loved the first STREET FIGHTER arcade game,STREET FIGHTER 2 was cool because of the choice of fighters but lacked balance & catered to KEN & RYU players as the series progressed. MORTAL KOMBAT has very unique special moves that were hard too pull off but were far more entertaining as well as the (live actors)storyline,backgrounds,fatalies & characters, which drew crowds of non playing fans from all walks of life to view the game whenever a new series made a debut,so I vote MORTAL KOMBAT !
MORTAL KOMBAT once again. Deeper storylines and you can use any character.In STREET FIGHTER everyone wants to use either KEN or RYU so what’s the use of having a roster of other characters that are useless? One voter uses KEN/RYU defeating SCORPION/SUB-ZERO,while they are the main characters in the MK series why not choose ZANGIEF or DAN? See,if STREET FIGHTER is so great you would be able to send ANY fighter in that series to go up against any MORTAL KOMBATANT !!!!!!
I think I’d have to go with the SF series…much better replayability…MK was a good game…but it seemed to get worse as more and more sequels were made…so yea I’m going with SF
I grew up with the MK series, and love the characters in it. however, I only recently discovered street fighter 2 turbo. Way more in depth fighting than what’s found in MK, hands down. This holds true for all sequels. SF ftw.
Mortal Kombat is alot better than Street Fighter for two main reasons 1. fatalities and 2. more kinds of characters.
another reason i picked mortal kombat is each character haves a ending and outfits you can use.
MK for life dudes i love the series and i’m never wasn’t too much for SF.
Mortal Kombat is wayyyy better than sf,and it doesnt look like a cartoon, and we all know that the MK fighters would kick sf fighters ass any day!

Anyone who compares Street Fighter to Mortal Kombat in terms of gameplay deserves to be shot.
I won’t say the Street Fighter storyline is absolutely amazing, but it definitely pwns MK’s.
Graphics aren’t generally important to me in a game, but if I had to choose, I’d much prefer SF’s. As was already noted, the characters in MK clash so horribly with the backgrounds that it’s actually quite distracting.

Comparing MK and SF is a good matchup no matter what anyone says. The two greatest fighting games hands down! I am a fan of both, but I HAVE to say that Mortal Kombat is still WAY better than SF. How can you say MK isn’t as in depth than SF. (CRAZY). First of all, nobody wants to see those gay ass anime stories that don’t even match SF 4’s artwork LOL. You have to be a real fanboy to keep up with that story line. more people know MK story line than SF. That’s just a fact. Second off, MK has a great combo system. Street fighter characters can’t even use popup combos! And what’s up with hitting people and going right through their bodies. LOL… I could ramble on all day…
… I’m not finished. MK all blood and gore… not true. So much more than that. First off, atleast it HAS blood and gore. SF doesn’t even kill their opponents. What’s up with those gay ass backgrounds. I wanna kill my opponent in some dark gothic type settings. Why in the blue hell are SF characters overdrawn? What’s up with ken and Ryu’s feet and chun li’s hands and thighs… lol. One last thing… I’m tired of playing with characters that have been doing the same old moves since day one… getting some NEW moves for crying out loud. And stop having 50 characters trying to do the same moves as Ken and Ryu. MK doesn’t do that $hit. That reason alone makes mortal kombat a better game… and you say more indepth (characters having same moves does not equal more in depth!)
MK vs KI is a real match!
I like both games but i tend to go with sf more than mk. street fighter has a good storyline, links and combos with super specials, and is the start of some of the best fighting games out there. MK has blood a good storyline but not as good as sf and the combos suck because you cant create them… they are preset. Look at armageddon for example, if you look at the command list all the combos you can do is already there. sf is great with combos for example sf alpha 3 v-ism you can create so many different combos with that alone. sorry but i will have 2 say sf > mk
and to the guy above me… cvs 2 (capcom vs snk)has juggles and pop up combos so you can’t say they dont youtube it if you dont beleive me
